    “Spring Back to Life!”

If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead...
    1 Corinthians 15: 19-20

It’s April, and the landscape will soon start waking up after it’s long winter sleep. Frozen trees will warm up and the sap inside them will begin to flow. Buds will appear and eventually burst out into leaves. What signs of life do you look forward to in spring? There can be a sadness that accompanies the fall of the year (some people think of autumn as the season of death) and it can be difficult in the frozen months to “rejoice in all circumstances.” But spring always comes.

The other day when I was feeling particularly tired and needed to remember this truth, I wrote on the little reminder board that I keep in my office, “Spring is coming...Jesus is alive in me!”

It must have been incredibly discouraging for Jesus’ followers on the Saturday after Good Friday, when Jesus was in the tomb. The finality of their master’s death lay heavy upon them.

Sometimes our lives can feel like that Saturday. Quiet. Final. Frozen. Dead.

But Sunday morning came! And Jesus rose from the dead.

There are many reminders of resurrection in the Spring. As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus this Easter Sunday, the foundation of our faith, and the source of our hope, we are surrounded by little resurrections that point to Jesus. The world resounds with resurrection life!

Whatever season you may be experiencing, God’s promise to you is the same: “Spring is coming... Jesus is alive in you!
