    “Hush!”

We are entering the season of Advent, which is full of anticipation. You might have started counting down the days until Christmas! According to the Christmas carol, “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.” But it can also be the most hectic, stressful and lonely time of the year, as our lives become busier to the point of asking, Why do I even bother with all this?

In the middle of the noise, it is refreshing to remember who we are waiting for. His name is Jesus.

    That little baby boy.

If you talk to some new parents, especially those who have just welcomed their first child, they might tell you that when the baby finally comes, after all the anticipation and preparations have been made or not made, there is a moment of simple exultant joy, like a hush that descends and there are no words left to say.

That’s what it’s like at the manger. Jesus is lying in there, so incredibly.

    Hush!

During the coming year we will  have many opportunities to fill the silence with words, plans, passion, and love. But before we get to any of that, let's spend some quiet hours at the side of the newborn Jesus.

    Hush! Everything else can wait!

    Just look at him.

    Jesus!

    In awestruck wonder,

    Pastor Curtis
