    for theLongest Night Service

For many people, the approaching holidays are not a joyous time. As families gather, the pain of the loss of family and friends felt more sharply. Other losses of relationships, health or jobs are difficult too. For some people, it is the hardest time of year.At the Longest Night service, we gather together as ones who are grieving. God desires to hear our grief and is with us in the midst of it.We also gather to look to Christ, who is the Light of the World. He alone is our light in the darkness, our hope in a sometimes-hopeless world.

The word synod means "assembly” or "meeting”—a gathering of clergy and laity of congregations united in a common confession of faith. Synods come together to discuss matters of doctrine, practice, and administration—and, most importantly, for worship and nurture in God's Word.
Each congregation or parish of Lutheran Church–Canada is represented at convention by two delegates: their pastor and one lay member. Appointment forms for the 2026 Synod Convention will be sent to all congregations in September.
Check out the 2026 Lutheran Church–Canada convention webpage.

News pertaining to Lutheran Church–Canada’s 2026 Synod Convention will be released on an ongoing basis in The Canadian Lutheran and on CanadianLutheran.ca; as well as in LCCs weekly e-newsletter InfoDigest.
